David Beckham is reported to have drawn up a plan to bring Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez to Inter Miami in the next two seasons.
The former Manchester United midfielder has his sights set on making the MLS franchise as big as the biggest clubs in the world. One of the ways he intends to do so is to attract the best talent to the club. This way, he will amass more investments and other local talent who will want to be associated with the club.
He currently employs World Cup winner Blaise Matuidi and World Cup runner-up Gonzalo Higuain. Now he wants to add the incredible talents of Messi and Suarez to the squad.
This is according to Goalwho claims Beckham is targeting both players.
Suarez is now a free agent after leaving Atletico Madrid after a successful two-year spell that saw him lead the club to their first La Liga title in seven years in the 2020/21 season.
Meanwhile, Messi has just won his first title at a club that changed its name from Barcelona but is still under contract with Paris Saint-Germain until the end of the 2022/23 season.
Messi has always been associated with the MLS move and has spoken positively about the league in the past. However, this move may not materialize until his contract with PSG expires next season.
It is also unlikely that Suarez will move to America in the summer after reports claimed he is not ready to leave Europe yet.
Suarez considers MLS offer if Messi does
One of the biggest fans and friends of the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi, Suarez is reported to be hinging on his move to Major League Soccer if Messi chooses to move there.
Suarez has made no secret of his desire to play with Messi as long as he still has a footballing career. He said in a recent interview about a possible move to Miami: “With Messi in Miami in a few years? Hope. On and off the pitch we’ve been good together. There’s nothing better than seeing two happy teammates outside perform on the inside.”
It was recently reported, and then debunked, that Messi will definitely move to the club in 2023 but that he will get an ownership stake in it.
It has been reported that Messi is preparing to acquire a 35 per cent ownership stake in the club and will be heading to the pitch as owner for marketing purposes.
This is the same way that Beckham owned Inter Miami, where he was offered and acquired an ownership stake in LA Galaxy, which he later sold to acquire the Miami-based club.
The reports were officially dismissed, but it is understood that both parties – Messi and Beckham – have the kind of relationship that could translate to the Argentine wearing the MLS team shirt in the near future.
This, by extension, could see Suarez move to MLS to play for Beckham’s team.
