🇪🇸 Benzema, Bono, and LaLiga’s individual award winners

The Pichichi, Zamora and Zarra cups are awarded to the overall scorer, the goalkeeper with the fewest goals, and the best Spanish scorer.

The 2021/22 LaLiga Santander season is coming to an end and there are some players who deserve special recognition.

That is why every year the Pichichi Cup, Zamora Cup and Zarra Trophy are awarded. These are the awards presented to the tournament’s top scorer, the goalkeeper who conceded the fewest goals per game, and the best scorer in La Liga in La Liga Santander.

With the winners of these individual awards now known, here’s a look at the numbers that saw four players take home these three awards.

Pichichi Trophy: For the first time in his career, Karim Benzema tops the scorers list

The Pichichi Cup for the 2021/22 season was a clear winner. Real Madrid’s No. 9 Karim Benzema led the way with 27 goals in LaLiga Santander, scoring 10 times more than second-placed scorers Vinicius, Iago Aspas and Raul de Tomas. On 11 occasions, he scored the opening goal of the match, so it was the key to Real Madrid’s victory in the title.

It has been the best season of Benzema’s career in terms of goals, while this is the first time he has won the Pichichi Cup. He also became the first Real Madrid player to win it since Cristiano Ronaldo.

Zamora Cup: Bono is the first Sevilla player to win the Zamora

Seville goalkeeper Bono won the Zamora Cup, which is awarded every year to the goalkeeper with the best number of goals scored per match.

He finished the campaign with 24 goals in the 31 matches he played, which equates to 0.77 goals per game. Thibaut Courtois followed, and the Real Madrid goalkeeper came in second with a score of 0.81.

Thus, the Moroccan became the first Sevilla player to achieve the highest individual recognition for a goalkeeper in LaLiga Santander.

Zara Cup: Joint Prize

The Zara Cup is the award given to the Spaniard with the highest score in each LaLiga Santander campaign.

This year, there are two winners, as Iago Aspas and Raúl de Tomás finished the season with 17 goals. Although some have attributed to the RC Celta player 18 goals, Zara Cup organizer, Marca, awarded him one goalless goal.

However, this is the fourth Zara Cup in Aspas’ career, equaling Spanish football legend David Villa. Meanwhile, Raul de Tomas won this award for the first time and is the first player in the history of RCD Espanyol to achieve this honor.
