Edinson Cavani attracting interest from Italy

Edinson Cavani is attracting Italy’s interest after his contract with Manchester United expired.

Cavani signed for United from Paris Saint-Germain in October 2020 and signed a one-year contract last May after scoring 17 goals in his first season.

There have been rumors that Cavani could join River Plate because the Argentine club will need a replacement for Julian Alvarez, who will join Manchester City, but that is not where he sees his future.

However, Salernitana’s president, Danilo Irvolino, has admitted he is interested in signing with Uruguay.

“I’d love to sign with Edinson Cavani as a freelancer,” he said.

“Cavani would be a great gift for the city, as Salernitana will remain in Serie A. I will also strive to keep Franck Ribery here for another season.”

The 35-year-old will leave United in 59 appearances for the club.
