Nemanja Matic played his last home game for Manchester United in their 3-0 win over Brentford at Old Trafford.
Matic then bid farewell to the home fans and made a promise to the Red Devils fans. The former Chelsea midfielder announced last month that he would be leaving in the summer after a five-year spell at Trafford.
The Serbian promised United fans that he would return for an exclusive interview with the club.
“Yes, I just want to say thank you for the wonderful support,” Matic told the club’s official website when asked if he had a farewell message.
“I know we’ve had two tough seasons, but I just want the fans to know that, at the training ground, we’re doing our best, and United will definitely come back.
“It will take some time but United will come back. Keep supporting the team. Stay together.”
“I will miss the players but not only the players, as well as the crew around the players: the equipment crew, the physicists, the doctors. Everyone. I don’t want to forget anyone.
“United has some great people working for the club.
“They are behind the cameras but they are very important to the team. They really love the club and that’s good.
“I’m really glad I had the opportunity to work with them, and they will definitely be my friends forever.”
Matic could make his 190th game for United when he faces Crystal Palace on Sunday.
