Manchester United are said to be in the process of bypassing the deal to sign Lille defender Sven Putman from Milan, who has been chasing the star for an entire season and is close to sealing a £25m deal.

Putman’s untouchable form of late has made him a magnet in the transfer market, with top European teams arriving in Lille with buyout offers for the Dutchman. The 22-year-old Dutch defender was included in Ajax Amsterdam’s youth squad before being sold to Lille in 2020. He played 37 league games this season and was one of the reasons why the French club edged PSG until 2020. / 21 Ligue 1 title .

Putman has only played 24 league games this season and, like all of his Lille teammates, has had poor spells in terms of form. However, he has put in some strong performances that reinforce the idea that he is a highly defensive talent.

Aside from Milan who have been most adamant about signing the £25m-rated defender, Newcastle United, who are throwing their transfer net wide given they currently have the resources to do so, have also been in the running to sign Putman.

Given his age and the capabilities he has shown thus far, he has proven to be an asset to any team that finds themselves in him. Manchester United have now decided to switch to the defender as his £25m price tag is too cheap an option for the Premier League giants.

Discussing Putman’s transfer at the Manchester United transfer summit

According to reports, a transfer deal for Ajax’s youth producer was brought up at a transfer summit held between Manchester United’s director of football John Murtaugh, and new coach and manager Eric ten Hag.

Reports claim his transfer has been widely discussed because Manchester United are planning a defensive exit before the new season. Kalidou Koulibaly is one of their targets, and Butman could be their third favorite as they plan to pair the veteran Senegal defender with Raphael Varane next season while shedding Phil Jones, Harry Maguire and possibly Victor Lindelof.

United are also focusing on signings in midfield because there will be a dearth of talent in that region in June.
