Arsenal youngster commits future to Mexico

Arsenal’s young player Marcelo Flores has decided to represent Mexico at the international level.

The player was eligible to play for Mexico, Canada and England due to his heritage and childhood, but the 18-year-old midfielder has now opted to play for El Tri after much deliberation.

Confirming his decision on social media, Flores said: “Being like myself – being from a multicultural environment that identifies with so many different countries – I feel it is natural to question your identity and even your origin at times.

“Canada and England are a part of me, they made me who I am. I can’t lie, it wasn’t an easy process.

“I love Mexico. My father instilled this passion from a very young age and I was fortunate to visit Mexico every year during my childhood.

“I’ve always been a part of the Mexican national team system. It’s where I feel most comfortable. It’s where my sisters and I feel at home even when home is thousands of miles away.”

“I will faithfully represent Mexico for the rest of my career. The Mexican Federation has supported me in various aspects of football development, invested in my progress, and always trusted me freely to do what I thought was the best.”
