Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has issued the latest update on Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk after both players were sacked due to injuries during the Reds’ FA Cup Final win over Chelsea on Saturday.

With the Champions League under two weeks away, it was a frightening sight to see Salah fall 30 minutes later on the clock after a suspected hamstring injury. The Egyptian was eventually sacked and had to be replaced by Diogo Jota while Van Dijk was unable to participate in extra time, as he had to be replaced by Joel Matip after 90 minutes.

These two names are two of Liverpool’s most influential stars, and fans have been left with unsettling thoughts especially regarding their preparation for the Champions League final against Real Madrid.

“Moe came in and I had to make a decision. He said, ‘I can go on, but I felt a bit.’ So I took him off. We have the band. Hope he’s ok.”

In response to his substitution, Van Dijk said: “Hopefully [I recover] Well, we’ll check it out. In the first half when I ran, I felt a tingling behind my knee.

“I played. [But] In the end, I can’t risk the team and have to trust Joel. I hope it’s all right.”

Klopp praises Liverpool after winning the FA Cup

A historic four-way show is still in the making and Klopp has paid tribute to his squad, with the Reds now winning two domestic titles in the same season for the first time under his watch.

Klopp said: “That we could make it completely out of this world, it’s unbelievable, it’s huge, it’s the 60th game or something in a very, very, very, very, very, very intense season, to put in a performance like that is absolutely unbelievable. But the most important – the most important really. – I have to say all respect to Chelsea. What a team, what a performance, in the end we all know that penalties are a lottery. But we did it again.”

Salah and Van Dijk will now face a race against time to be fit for their team’s remaining Premier League matches, and if not, surely for the Champions League final against Real Madrid on May 28.
