Barcelona is still considering ways to sign Portuguese midfielder Bernado Silva and is considering a swap deal with Frenkie de Jong for this.
The Catalan giants had been interested in the 27-year-old since his days at Monaco, but Manchester City beat them up to his signature while they were still discussing their bid for Monaco.
The Portuguese midfielder also expressed his admiration for Barcelona in the past and his desire to wear the colors of the Blaugrana. Barcelona have now been given a chance to finally get their man, according to reports.
Man City is one of the clubs interested in Frenkie de Jong and Spain’s Tosefte Mundo Deportivo He claimed the Catalans are considering proposing a swap deal with Premier League side Silva.
City are expected to lose a number of players this summer and bring in some new faces. Fernandinho will leave the captain in the summer after an announcement earlier in April signed everyone at the club, including manager Pep Guardiola.
Second deputy captain Ilkay Gundogan has one year left on his contract and there are no indications of a new deal in sight for the German, who has been at the club since 2016.
De Jong, who can work in many midfield roles, is the perfect replacement for two midfielders when one or both depart in the summer.
Man City transfer news
Meanwhile, City have also been linked with a surprise midfield goal previously rejected by Guardiola.
Paul Pogba’s name emerged as one of the club’s summer transfer targets, just months after Guardiola rejected him for the second time when he approached his late agent Mino Raiola.
The Daily Mail makes the allegations, which also state that Pogba is not willing to deal with rivals of his old club. They also claim that City will have to make a very convincing bid with PSG in the race for the World Cup winner.
But the biggest City transfer news will be Pep Guardiola’s contract extension at the club.
The Catalan is set to sign a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2025. His current deal expires in 2023 and leaders at the club want to give the two-time Champions League-winning coach another chance for the elusive title.
This comes after Liverpool signed Jurgen Klopp for another four years until 2026. Liverpool are the next most dominant team in England after City. With Klopp signing for a few more years, City could lose their seat at the top if Guardiola doesn’t go away anytime soon.
