Unai Emery admitted that Liverpool deserved to qualify for the Champions League final after returning against Villarreal.
Villarreal struggled hard in the first half as they managed to beat Liverpool 2-0 to equalize, but the Reds came back to lead 5-2 on aggregate.
The former Arsenal coach was disappointed after the match but was proud of the defeat.
He told BBC Sport: “When the moment is missed, it’s sad for everyone.”
“We cannot be happy with the way we had good games, good fights against Juventus and Bayern Munich, and then some distinction against Liverpool.”
“They deserve to play in the final.”
First half performance
“The first half tonight we showed everyone that we are also a good team and we can have chances as well.”
But the difference in two games was with them.”
Villarreal will return to the courts at the end of the week against Seville at home.
Meanwhile, Liverpool will face either Real Madrid or Manchester City in the Champions League finals.
