Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has explained his team’s selection against Everton.
The Blues suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the relegation-threatened Toffees in another match they were unable to find the net despite controlling the ball for extended periods.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek replaced N’Golo Kante in the only change from Thursday’s game at Old Trafford, a match that ended in a 1-1 draw.
The German tactical decided to stick to the forward triple played at Old Trafford, with Romelu Lukaku on the bench.
Speaking minutes before kick-off, Tuchel said;
“He went to Old Trafford after 80 minutes and he’s still in pain,” he said, referring to Kante. “Slight injury. I hope he comes back for the next match but not today. Loftus-Cheek comes because we were happy with the performance and the way we played.
“We don’t have a midweek game over the next week, so there is no need for bigger changes.”
Richarlison scored the only goal of the match two minutes into the second half, taking advantage of Cesar Azpilicueta’s error in the net against Edward Mendy.
Next time the Blues host Wolverhampton knowing a win will be enough to send them into the Champions League next season.
