Harry Maguire received a bomb threat after Manchester United’s 4-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday night.
A spokesperson for Maguire told the Manchester Evening News: “In the past 24 hours, Harry has received a serious threat to his family home. He has reported the matter to police who are now looking into the matter.”
“It is clear that the safety of his family and those around him is Harry’s number one priority. He will continue to prepare for this weekend’s match as usual and we will not comment on any further details at this time.”
Searches were made around Maguire’s home, which he shares with his fiancée and their two daughters, but the property has not been vacated.
The threat came a day after the heavy defeat at Anfield that led to scathing criticism of Maguire, including from former Manchester United captain Roy Keane on Sky Sports.
Maguire signed for United from Leicester City in August 2019 for a reported fee of £80m.
