Ajax chief: We are trying to convince Ten Hag to stay

Ajax coach Jerry Hamstra has revealed that they are still persuading coach Erik ten Hag to stay at the club.

Tin Hag has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer, but Hamstra says they are doing everything they can to retain their tactical expert.

In an interview with ESPN via Metro, Hamstra said: “We hope he stays, but there are now only two scenarios. Our job is to stick to the facts and he hasn’t left yet.

“He’s focused on the present. Only Eric can decide his future. He’s big enough and wise enough for that. We really hope he stays, and if it’s not left we can be ready for the second scenario.”

Asked why he wasn’t pressured so hard to keep their manager, he added, “I can be very clear about this: We did it. We did everything for… We try everything to keep him on board. We tried everything. When? Recently? .more money? Yes.”

Ajax lost the cup final to PSV Eindhoven on Sunday and both clubs are expected to make an official announcement soon with the 52-year-old remaining on his contract for one year.
