Arsenal legend Robert Perez has revealed that he advised Hector Bellerin to leave the north London club and sign Real Betis on loan.
Bellerin, who signed to Arsenal in 2011 from the Barcelona academy, joined Betis on loan during the summer transfer window for a season-long loan period. The Spaniard has been finding it difficult to play in the Emirates, but he has been a regular at Betis this season.
Speaking to Livescore, Perez revealed that Bellerin asked him for advice regarding playing under manager Manuel Pellegrini.
“Hector Bellerin had a good influence at Real Betis. He is a professional,” he said.
“For him, in the end with Arsenal it was difficult to find a position, so he chose to join La Liga, especially Real Betis. He called me and asked about the coach, Manuel Pellegrini, who was my manager at Villarreal.”
“Look, I said Hector, if you have a chance to play with Pellegrini, you should go, for you will enjoy it.”
on experience
“The most important thing is to enjoy your football. Not only playing the match itself, of course, that is important. But also, every morning, when you are at Real Betis, you go to the club.”
“Hector Bellerin has a lot of experience at a high level and I’m happy for him because he’s at Real Betis.”
