Firmino joins special Liverpool class with double against Benfica

Roberto Firmino became the fourth Liverpool player to score 20 goals in the Champions League when he scored a brace against Benfica in the Champions League quarter-final second leg on Wednesday night.

The Brazilian joins current teammates Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane as well as club legend Steven Gerrard in the special group.

Firmino scored the first low cross from Diogo Jota before firing in a Konstantinos Tsimikas free kick to put the Reds on the path to the semi-finals.

Although Liverpool panicked of late as the visitors scored twice to equalize 3-3 on the night, Jurgen Klopp’s side held on to lead 6-4 on aggregate.

Speaking after the match, a jubilant Jurgen Klopp could not hide his delight.

“And on the day when I didn’t make it into the Champions League semi-finals, something is really wrong. Maybe it’s the time to quit!”

Liverpool will now turn their attention to this week’s FA Cup match against Manchester City.
